The purpose of the Compline service is to provide a sacred space for people to worship in a contemplative manner. In light of the noisiness and commodification of our lives, it is believed that such a service would minister to a deep and felt need.

The service may appeal, we think, to Charismatics and Pentecostals looking for more liturgy or beauty or silence in their lives, or to Episcopalians and Catholics looking for more of a sense of the Holy Spirit, of intimacy with God and for the opportunity for prayer ministry, and likely also to non-Christians who are feeling a desperate need for sacred space in a world that is increasingly profane and triviliazed—indeed made banal by the excess of entertainment.
