This week, we are praying together asking God to transform our communities toward His Peace.
Yesterday's prayer was for restoration of devastated cities. We don't think of our city as devastated, but certainly there are areas of devastation, spiritually, where we desperately need to be restored. Even now, our hearts are moved toward other cities which have been physically devastated by hurricane, tidal wave and earthquake, even the ravages of poverty destroying all infrastructure. We need spiritual as well as physical restoration.
Today, we are asking God to turn greed to generosity. I think this strikes at the heart of who we are today. We, in general, have become a greedy nation. It is too easy to name the ills. Surely, many of us today are facing unemployment, loss of property and wealth in staggering numbers, and yet, we are a nation of extreme wealth compared to the vast majority of the world.
In this time, in this crisis, God, turn our hearts to you, turn mine into OURS. Empower us with such faith that we plant our seed corn for a great harvest rather than save it for a few desperate meals of disaster. Let some of our loudest proclamations of the Good News be seen in how we live generous lives in these days. You are our Hope, our Joy, our Strength. We put our trust in You over anything we own or possess.
