Homework Assignment for Week 1, Jan. 18 - 24

Monday, Jan. 18th.  Take home assignment, get ready for next week

Critical listening.

We are giving you three songs. Try to analyze them.  We are giving you chord charts but they probably aren’t in the same key as the CD.  See if you can identify the key.  What is the time signature, 3 beats to the measure or 4?.  Find the songs  on youtube to listen:

Spiritual Growth:

Songs of Ascent:  There are 15 Psalms labeled as songs of ascent.  It is thought that Israelites would sing them as they journeyed to Jerusalem for religious holidays and feasts.  We are adopting them as we think we are on a journey together. We will take at least one a week throughout our semester to meditate, pray over and worship.  We’ll start at the beginning.  120.

Psalm 120

1. Read the Psalm every day. This is not an overly joyous psalm, but in preparation for ascending to Jerusalem, it is good to prepare by ridding yourself of garbage and feelings of defeat.  Use this as a prayer.  We aren’t where we want to be.  Often our situation reminds us that Heaven is not yet here.   We long for Jerusalem, the city of Peace, the city of our God.

a. Remember, people are not the enemy, Satan and his minions are.  Keep that in mind as you meditate on the Psalm.

2. Write a prayer from the Psalm

3. Write a song from it.

Please do this on a sheet of paper that you can turn in next week.  You can do it on computer and email it to us if you want.
